THE STORY

Throughout the history of The Mutes, there have been many band members who came and went, each and every one contributing their own unique input into the band, in all its varied forms.

From humble beginnings of The Mutations with founding members Dave Fitzgerald and Sean Rafferty, Greg Hall jumped up to play bass, Brian Hicks was the drummer, Colin Ahjou to The Mutes’ David Steel and Bruno Bryant, and even later Greg Thomas, Glen Evans, Peter Dunlop, Steven Goom Fishcer, Simon Clayton and others in Shot at Sunrise, Complex Numbers.

Special mention must of course go to Andy White, who manned the mixing desk and was orchestrator of all things sound, and Gess Brownlee, who lit up the show with his many coloured lights. Andy was of course famously responsible for the design of the front cover of the original songs tape package Muscle Music, featuring the fabulous Errol the kookaburra complete with cigarette in mouth and thongs. Andy also created the background sheet of The Mutes with the famous Errol in all his larger-than-life glory.

In conclusion, in the eternal words of our beloved drummer Bruno Bryant, who was always shunted with the job of writing out the song set lists, talking to the audience between songs and eventually won all our hearts when, packing up the band gear from a gig and no-one was helping, called the police and said a rock band had parked their van in a no-parking zone and were blocking traffic which got the other members of the group soon helping with the van loading:
